The Sikh Temple of Sacramento at 2301 Evergreen Avenue is a place of worship for the majority of the Sikh population residing in the Greater Sacramento area.
The Sikh Temple of Sacramento (commonly known as Gurdwara or "gateway to the guru") was inaugurated in July 1983 in a building located on a two-acre site, and remodeled to accommodate the needs of the Sikh community.
The opening ceremony of the new prayer hall was held on July 27, 1997 on an additional three-acre site. The larger hall was required to perform religious services for the expanded congregation. The new prayer hall consists of 15,000 square feet of first floor area, and 5000 square feet of second floor. The roof is adorned with four large size and thirty-six small size traditional domes. In the adjoining building, there are two kitchens and a dining hall.
