KISHAN SINGH GARGA
Kishan Singh was born at village Bluing, District lullundur. a place Just two furlongs to the cast of Jullundur Cantonment He was the only son of his fuller Fateh Singh. After serving the Army for a period of about fifteen years in Battalion Ho 35, Kishan Sings joined the active political activities and resigned his service when he was to be promoted to the rank of Havaldar Major. White in the army he was once accused of sxi-British remarks and detained in Quarter Guard for 28 days.
The Akali movement was in full swing when he left the army. Without any hesitation be became member of the Shiromani Akali Dal and after a short time was appointed its General Secretary. But he had no faith in the non-violent methodology of the Akalis and gave preference to armed struggle over peaceful morchas. Circumstances helped him to translate his ideas into practice. In the Akali Conspiracy Case, Hoshiarpur, his warrants of arrest were issued. To evade arrest he bacanw a fugitive and started working underground. Shortly after, he organized a hand of radicals and gave it the name of Chakanarti laths (ever moving bud). The hand was meant to carry on propaganda against the British Govenunent and to strike awe in the minds of its functionaries by use of atom whenever necessary. Among its members the most notable wore Sunder Singh Makhsuspuri. Kararn Singh, Dhriman Babu, Santa Singh and Master Mota Smgbt. To begin with he hold special diwans where he made powerful speeches advocating the use of arms for freedom from British rule. A meeting was hell in 1922 where it was decided to warn the ultra loyalists like numberdars, sufaidposhes and zaildars and to out oft the ears of those who did not hoed the warning. Even lists of such people were drawn. After sometime, however, the decision was revrsed and it was resolved that the real remedy was to asassinate them. The same meeting decided to reorganize the Chakravarti Jatha under the name of Bablar Akuli Dal. Kishan Singh was elected its President, Dalip Singh Gaunsal became as Secretary and Babu Santa Singh its Treasurer. Karam Singh Ligar, Karam Singh Daulatptri and tide Singh were elected working members. The new organization brought out a revolutionary paper which was printed at a press called Udaru Press (flying or mobile press). Seeing the rapidly growing influence of the Babbar Akalis, Government put up a prize of pupas two thousand on Kishan Singh’s lead. A number of dacoits tell under his spell and agreed to abide by the discipline of the Babbars and to work in collaboration with them.
Suddenly when he was fully involved in this work Kuban Singh (called Garga) for his powerful manner of speaking) was arrested at Pindnri Mahal an February 26, 1923 through the treachery ofoue Kabul Singh of his own village and was detained in Lahore Central Jail. For his trial a special court was crated which lasted from June 2, 1924 to February 28, 1925. The most remarkable feature of the trial was Kshan Singh•s long statement musing into 125 pages in indictn.ent of repressive British administration. As was to be expected, he was sentenced to death and was hanged on February 27, 1926 At first the Jail authorities refused to hand over his dead body to the as e-.nb e of his family but the huge crowd that had gathered outside the Jail ultimately forced them to acetic to the public demand.
