GURDWARA SAHIB KALUMPANG, SELANGOR
Indian Settlement, Kalumpang, 44100 Kerling, Selangor
In the early 1920’s, there were about 120 Sikhs residing in Kalumpang. Most of them were employed by the K.L. Tin Mine, as well as other smaller mines in the area, mainly as security personnel or general labour ers.
In 1928, these Sikhs built a Gurdwara Sahib in Kalumpang to serve their religious needs. The Gurdwara land is about 3/4 of an acre in size. The original Gurdwara building was made of wooden planks with a zinc roof. The Gurdwara has been repaired several times. The front and back walls of the building were rebuilt with concrete.
Bhai Gurdit Singh Village Sedhupur, Jallandhar served as a Granthi in this Gurdwara Sahib from 1946 to 1990 after which he retired. Presently, the local Sikh families take care of the religious functions in this Gurdwara Sahib. During important religious functions, a Granthi is usually brought here from one of the neighbouring Gurdwara Sahibs.
Sikhs residing in Kalumpang manage the affairs of this Gurdwara Sahib and hold meetings as and when necessary. There are presently about 16 Sikh families who reside around the Gurdwara Sahib premises. Once a month on the Sangrand day, prayers are held in the Gurdwara Sahib. Other religious functions are held as and when required by the local Sikh families.
