GURDWARA SAHIB SLIM RIVER, PERAK
Taman Saroja, 35800 Slim River, Perak
In the 1960s, the Sikhs in Slim River were engaged in various professions e.g. estate managers, doctors, Police personnel, dredge employees or self employed. In 1973, these Sikhs decided to build a Gurdwara Sahib to serve their religious needs.
The land for the Gurdwara Sahib building, which is about 1/2 an acre in size, was donated to the Sikh community by Mr. V.K. Kalayana Sundram. Sardar Amar Singh laid the foundation stone of this Gurdwara Sahib on 12′ June 1973. This Gurdwara Sahib building is a wooden structure built on concrete stilts. It was completed at the end of 1973 and officially declared open by the Sikh Sangat of Slim River.
The Management Committee comprises of the President, Secretary, Treasurer and four committee members. The present Trustees of this Gurdwara Sahib are Dr. Dalip Singh and Sardar Jagjit Singh. Bhai Harwant Singh served as a Granthi in this Gurdwara Sahib from 1973 to 1995. There are presently 10 Sikh families staying around Slim River who participate in the religious activities held in this Gurdwara Sahib.
The Sikh Sangat celebrates the Sangrand day by holding prayers from 4.00p.m. to 6.00p.m. Other religious programmes are held as and when necessary at the request of the Sikh Sangat.
