The place, where Guru Amar Dasji lived and Guru Ram Das was bestowed with Guruship, is called Gurdwara Chaubara Sahib. This is the birth place of Guru Arjun Dev, the fifth Guru.
Guru Amar Das and Guru Ram Das both breathed their last in this very place at the age of 105 and 47 years respectively.
Before his death, Guru Amar Das selected Bhai Jethaji, as his successor. He performed the coronation of Bhai Jetha (Guru Ram Das), in the traditional manner, in 1574 A.D. An yearly fair is held at Goindwal to commemorate the day.
Goindwal town, has been linked with Kapurthala by a road bridge, constructed recently over river Beas. An Industrial Centre has been set up by Punjab Government in the neighbourhood. Many prominent industrialists have set up their ‘factories in the Goindwal Industrial Centre.

Gurdwara Chaubara Sahib, is situated in the old town of Machiwara in Ludhiana District. It is connected by road to Ludhiana-Chandigarh highway at Samrala (42 Kms.) and to Ropar (46 Kms.) by Guru Gobind Singh Marg
